Celebrating the Women Behind GRACE: Advancing Cardiovascular Innovation Together

Women play an essential role in scientific research, clinical practice and healthcare innovation. Across GRACE, women from different professional backgrounds contribute to advancing cardiovascular care, bringing together clinical knowledge, technological expertise and experience in research, industry and project coordination.

To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February, GRACE launched a social media campaign celebrating the women involved in the project and highlighting the diversity of expertise across its consortium.

Meet the women behind GRACE

The campaign featured 12 women whose work supports different aspects of GRACE, from clinical research and care delivery to technological development, project management and communication.

They include Marta Maria Romano, GRACE Project Manager at Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma; Eva Rodríguez de Trujillo, Product Specialist at Medtronic; and Núria José Bazán, nurse at the Heart Failure Unit of Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge.

The campaign also highlighted Teresa López Fernández, clinical leader of the cardio-oncology Use Case at Hospital Universitario La Paz; Paula Currás, Industrial Leader of GRACE at Medtronic; and Gloria Cea, Project Director at BRIDG OÜ, contributing to patient empowerment activities.

Other featured contributors were Giovanna Liuzzo, cardiologist and clinical leader of the holistic cardiovascular care Use Case; Beatriz Palacios Izquierdo, from AstraZeneca’s Medical Department in Spain; and Suja Saraswathy, Clinical Scientist at Philips, contributing to the Use Case focused on cardiac MRI and INOCA diagnosis.

The campaign also recognised Maria Mateo Barrientos, from Medtronic’s Business Development and Integrated Health Solutions team; Alba María Gallego Montejo, Technical Project Manager at BRIDG OÜ; and Lidia Manero Mijangos, Head of Communications at Happy Mondays Communication and GRACE’s dissemination and community-building manager.

Recognising women's contributions to science

Celebrating women in science means recognising their contributions and promoting an environment in which diverse perspectives, talent and expertise can thrive. Making women’s work visible also helps inspire future generations to explore opportunities in science, healthcare and technology.

GRACE acknowledges the valuable contributions of the women across its consortium and the importance of collaboration in advancing cardiovascular innovation.
