Innovation in action: The GRACE pilot focuses on atrial fibrillation gains visibility in Spain
One of the six clinical pilots under the GRACE Project is already gaining recognition in the media — and with good reason. In a recent appearance on Andalusian regional television, Dr. José Miguel Lozano, Head of the Arrhythmia Unit at San Cecilio University Hospital (Granada, Spain), discussed how GRACE is introducing cutting-edge cardiovascular innovation directly into clinical practice.
Dr. Lozano leads the Atrial Fibrillation (AF) pilot, a key intervention focused on one of the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmias worldwide. AF affects millions of people, increasing the risk of stroke, heart failure, and mortality. Its management demands timely diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and effective coordination among care teams — all of which GRACE aims to improve through digital innovation.
In this pilot, Medtronic serves as the industrial leader, contributing advanced technologies that enable remote data collection and patient monitoring, while Samsung Electronics provides devices to capture vital signs. Together, they collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and digital health experts to create a new, integrated model of AF care — one that enhances both clinical outcomes and patients’ quality of life.
This initiative exemplifies the collaborative spirit of GRACE, which is co-funded by the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) to bring public and private sectors together in reshaping the future of cardiovascular care.
